#4 - What’s up with cash pay?

The term “cash pay” simply means paying out of pocket instead of having an insurance company pay. There are a few reasons why this is a preferred approach for the kinds of therapy I provide at Nest, and I wanted to discuss them briefly in this blog post.

One reason is just for logistics. As a small, new practice, I lack the time, tools and agreements required to do business with insurance companies. It can be time consuming and costly to negotiate insurance payments for individual visits, some of which results in reduced payments to providers like me. To get Nest started, I decided to start as a cash pay business and focus more of my time on you!

Beyond logistics, being a cash pay business often results in better care for you, the patient. Since we are not contracted with insurance companies for certain services or treatment codes, I am free to provide you with all of the types of treatment that are best for you and your needs. We are free to create and follow your treatment plan, to achieve your goals, without being limited to a certain number of visits or certain types of treatment. In the state of NH, you do not need a doctor’s referral to seek the help of a physical therapist. This results in quicker access to PT care and quicker relief when you need it the most. In addition, every visit with me is entirely one-on-one care. That is liberating for both of us and often produces far better results for you!

I should note that the term does not mean we only take cash; most patients pay by credit card. We accept all major cards as well as HSA/FSA cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay. I should also mention that depending on your insurance plan, you might be able to submit your receipts to your insurance company for reimbursement. I am happy to provide you with detailed invoices for this purpose.

Insurance coverage is important to offset the costs of quality healthcare. But for improved access and patient experience, the help of a cash pay private practice like mine may be the way to go! Contact me for more information!
